Summary Report of the Training Workshop

on“ How to conduct the experimental work in Chemistry laboratory and Theoretical Methodology”

On 24-25 January, 2014, The Cambodian Chemical Society (CCS) cooperated with the Mondulkiri Provincial Department of Education Youth and Sports and the Department of Chemistry and Food, Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC) have organized a training workshop to Secondary and High Schools Chemistry Teachers at the School Resource Center (SRC), located in the Hun Sen Mondulkiri High School, in Mondulkiri town. This training workshop was supported by ISP group in the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP).

The Training Workshop aims to introduce both Theoretical and Experimental Methods according to the secondary chemistry curriculum to  the teachers in order to support them to have proper capacity to demonstrate the Chemical experiments in their own laboratories. The Training Workshop will also aim to improve the quality of teaching and learning Chemistry of students in high schools and encourage them to admire to study Chemistry.

25 participants attended (8 Females) this two days training. The following sessions were introduced to the participants:

• Safety in Laboratory and the basic uses of glassware
• Preparation solution NaOH 0.10M from its crystalline
• Standardized solution NaOH by potassium hydrogen phthalate (K.H.P)
• Determination  of the dissolved amount of CH₃COOH in daily vinegar         
• Decomposition reaction of NaHCO₃ by heat
• Water Electrolysis
• Testing protein in egg and urine
• Testing glucose in urine
• Presentation on:  Alcohols and Health.

The training workshop has successfully been finished at 5.00pm on 26^th January 2014. Participants were very happy and suggested to have more training, especially for Chemical teachers at the very rural area of the country.
