President

Cambodian Chemical Society (CCS)

  • Your Excellency Dr. Oum Romny, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and High Representative of His Excellency Academician, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports
  • Excellencies, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen

On behalf of the Cambodian Chemical Society (CCS) and the organizing committee of the International Symposium of the Cambodian Chemical Society (CCSIS 2025), I would like to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to all of you to the Kingdom of Cambodia and to CCSIS 2025. It is my great pleasure and privilege to host this International Symposium, which is taking place from December 5-8, 2025, here at the Cambodiana Hotel. Your presence here today demonstrates your commitment to advancing chemical sciences and fostering regional and international scientific collaboration that transcends borders and builds bridges between nations.

This marks a historic milestone for the Cambodian Chemical Society, as it is the first time we have had the honor of collaborating with MEME Corporation of Japan to organize an international symposium of this magnitude. This partnership represents not only a significant achievement for our society but also a testament to the growing recognition of Cambodia’s scientific community on the international stage. I would like to express our profound gratitude to MEME Corporation of Japan for this invaluable opportunity to strengthen our collaboration, expand our international network, and build lasting partnerships that will benefit researchers and students in both our nations. In particular, I wish to extend special appreciation to Professor Tamotsu Takahashi, President of MEME Corporation of Japan, for his visionary leadership, unwavering support, and personal dedication in making CCSIS 2025 a reality.

Cambodian Chemical Society has a proud history of international collaboration and scientific exchange that reflects our commitment to regional integration and knowledge sharing. For instance, in 2018, the Cambodian Chemical Society partnered with Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM) to organize the International Congress on Pure & Applied Chemistry (ICPAC 2018), which was successfully held from March 7-10, 2018, at Sokhalay Angkor Resort & Spa in Siem Reap Province. That successful collaboration, along with multiple other collaborative networks we have cultivated over the years, has laid the foundation for today’s partnerships and demonstrated Cambodia’s capacity and readiness to host world-class regional and international scientific gatherings. These experiences have strengthened our conviction that Cambodia can serve as a vital hub for scientific exchange within ASEAN and beyond, bridging research communities and fostering innovation across borders.

This international symposium today brings together distinguished scientists and emerging scholars from both Cambodia and Japan to present their latest research findings, engage in meaningful discussions, exchange knowledge and innovative ideas, and foster international collaboration, all in service of advancing human resource development in our field and contributing to the broader goals of scientific progress in the region. The diverse perspectives and expertise gathered here will create a rich environment for learning and discovery.

We are honored to welcome approximately 200 participants to this symposium, including chemistry professors and researchers from various prestigious universities in Japan, Cambodian chemistry professors, teachers, researchers and university students from institutions across our nation, CCS members, distinguished guests representing various ministries and universities, and members of the media who will help share our scientific achievements with the wider public. This diverse gathering reflects the multidisciplinary nature of modern chemistry and its applications across various sectors of society.

Throughout the symposium, we will have around 70 researchers from Japan, alongside 10 Cambodian researchers who will deliver oral presentations, and 24 university students who will present their work through poster presentations. This symposium will also provide a valuable opportunity for hundreds of university students to observe and engage with cutting-edge chemistry research, gaining practical experience and inspiration that will benefit their future studies, thesis work, and professional careers in the sciences.

Excellencies, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is my sincere hope and expectation that this International Symposium will inspire new approaches to research, introduce innovative techniques and methodologies, yield important findings that will advance chemical sciences and technology in Cambodia, and strengthen the bonds between our scientific communities. The knowledge shared here over these four days has the potential to transform how we approach scientific challenges and create solutions that benefit our society.

I would like to thank all participants for making the journey to attend our symposium and for bringing your expertise, insights, and enthusiasm to enrich our discussions and advance our collective understanding of chemical sciences.

Special thanks go to all organizing committee members, students, and volunteers who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the success of this event. Without their dedication, attention to detail, and countless hours of preparation, this conference would not have been possible. We look forward to thought-provoking discussions, productive exchanges, and collaborative efforts that will lead to meaningful advancements in our field and create lasting impact. My sincere respect and gratitude go out to each of you for your contributions to science and education. I wish you fruitful and rewarding deliberations at CCSIS 2025, productive networking opportunities, and a memorable experience here in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. May this symposium mark the beginning of many fruitful collaborations and friendships. Thank you!
